UPDATED CAPE TOWN TO CAIRO ROUTE WITH OASIS OVERLAND

We have made some exciting additions to our northbound itinerary from Cape Town to Cairo this year, and our upcoming April departure will be the first trip to include these.  We now include Eswatini, the Caprivi strip in Namibia, new areas of Mozambique and Zimbabwe plus time in Zambia and Burundi.

North of Kenya, we are still not able to drive through Sudan due to the security situation there, and our itinerary for this part of the trip has therefore always been described as somewhat flexible. We have firmed this up somewhat now and updated the website with what we think will be final plans for this year and beyond, at least until things change in Sudan.

So, we are extending our time in northern Kenya, then travelling through Ethiopia, Somaliland and Djibouti before crossing back into Ethiopia so that people can take an optional trip up into the Danakil Depression, and then returning to Addis Ababa. We will leave the truck there and fly to Egypt (flight not included), to finish the trip in Egypt using local transport and hotels. This is a slight variation on how we ran things last year, and should work well.

A new Horn of Africa trip from Nairobi to Addis Ababa is now also available to do just this section, starting on 26 July 2025.
