Three Southern Africa Trips
Southern Africa has always been one of Oasis’ favourite travel destinations and one that we have been involved in throughout our 20 year history. As such, we have put together three trips in Southern Africa encompassing South Africa, Lesotho, and Zimbabwe. These overland adventures are slightly different from our other African adventures in that the trip is 50% accommodated in simple lodges and hostels and 50% camping – on camp sites

Three Days in Yeravan
Up until very recently my knowledge of Armenia, the smallest nation in the Caucasus region, was embarrassingly thin. So upon booking flights to Yerevan to go and join our first Oasis Overland trip through the region, I didn’t know what to expect. I briefly looked into it and built up in my mind a number of preconceptions: this was a former Soviet city, nestled between Iran and the Caucasus, so I expected bland concrete tower blocks, grey skies and nondescript restaurants selling earthy meals of meat and potatoes.

Top Destinations to see in Brazil
Ten awesome Brazil destinations you won’t believe you haven’t visited yet!
The 2016 Olympics and Paralympics brought a lot of attention and tourism to Rio de Janeiro. This, combined with less international media attention surrounding the Zika virus, travellers are again viewing Brazil as a fantastic country to visit. However, most tourists visit only Rio, Sao Paulo and Iguaçu Falls; a tiny fraction of the world’s 8th biggest country. Earlier this year, whilst on the Oasis Overland Trans South America Expedition, I discovered some unexpected and beautiful Brazilian gems.

Life as a child soldier
We obtain gorilla trekking permits for those wishing to do the gorilla trek in Rwanda through Herbert, who some of you may have met during your overland trip with us. We have worked with Herbert for many years and when company owner Chris met him, he told him how he had been a child soldier during the 90s.

Deserts & Gameparks (Part 2)
Continuing on from my last blog, Deserts & Gameparks – part 1 (for those that missed it!) I had just left Botswana with the group and have now entered Namibia. And our first stop was to stay at a campsite right on the edge of the Okavango River, which feeds in to the Okavango Delta. Where rather than a pool, you can jump in to a caged ‘pool’ in the river to cool off, while being kept safe from crocodiles and hippos! The views from this campsite are just incredible, and if there is availability you can always upgrade to one of their tree houses, which are just lovely!

What do you think of when you hear the word “Carnival”? Bright colours? Crazy dancing? Costume Parades? Revelling in the streets? Carnival in Brazil, especially in Rio de Janeiro, combines all this – and more!!

How has technology changed overland travel?
When Oasis Overland began operating nearly twenty years ago, the world was a very different place. E-mail was in its infancy, websites were text-heavy and not laden with flash graphics and video clips, and the concept of a ‘smartphone’ was still little more than an idea being bandied about the offices of Apple in California.
