Finding love on a Big Yellow TruckOverlanding isn’t just about the incredible destinations—it’s about the people you meet along the way. Whether it’s forging lifelong friendships, sharing laughter and challenges around the campfire, or even finding love in the most unexpected corners of the world, an overland trip brings people together in ways few other experiences can. From braving rapids in the Amazon to spotting elephants on the savanna, travellers bond through shared adventures, minor hardships, and endless moments of wonder. From poshy La La Princess to Overlanding Pro: Life-changing travels on a Big Yellow TruckLauren’s first overlanding experience on a 15-week journey from Quito to Rio de Janeiro was a crash course in adventure, mud, bugs, and tents, but also in resilience, camaraderie, and fun. A self-confessed city girl with little outdoor experience, she quickly adapted to cooking for the group, pitching and striking her tent, trekking the Inca Trail, and surviving the Amazon Jungle. Overlanding pushed her far outside her comfort zone, testing patience, physical stamina, and adaptability—but it also created unforgettable memories, lifelong friendships, and a newfound confidence in travelling off the beaten track. Her journey shows that even total newbies can thrive on the road, proving that overlanding isn’t just for the seasoned adventurer—it’s for anyone willing to embrace the challenge and the chaos, and enjoy every messy, muddy moment along the way.

Rumble through the jungle reaches CameroonTo mark 20 years of overland adventure, we launched a one-off “Rumble Through the Jungle” expedition that pushed deep into the wild heart of Africa, tracing an epic route from Arusha, Tanzania to Buea in West Africa. Led by legendary crew Andi and Grant, the journey took our intrepid travellers far beyond the tourist trail, from tracking chimpanzees near Lake Tanganyika and navigating Zambia’s floodplains, to forging rarely travelled roads through Angola, the DRC and the Republic of Congo. Along the way there were border firsts, bog-hole recoveries, remote village encounters, Lowland Gorilla sightings and nights camped deep in rainforest. Battling rain, mud and some of the toughest driving conditions imaginable, the expedition was a true celebration of exploration, resilience and the spirit of overlanding that has defined Oasis for two decades.

Kazuri Bread factory in NairobiWith a little free time in Nairobi, a recommendation from Smiley – the ever-smiling face Oasis travellers know so well – led to a memorable visit to the Kazuri Bead Factory. Far from an industrial operation, this small-scale, handmade workshop tells a powerful story of craftsmanship and community, employing hundreds of local women to create beautiful beads and ceramics from Mount Kenya clay. A relaxed, welcoming tour revealed every step of the process, from clay preparation to firing and finished pieces, with no pressure to buy – though it was hard to resist picking up a few treasures. Meaning “small and beautiful” in Swahili, Kazuri perfectly captures the spirit of this inspiring organisation and its work.

Three Days in YeravanArriving in Yerevan with only vague and outdated preconceptions, this first encounter with Armenia quickly turned into a series of delightful surprises. Far from the grey, austere image imagined beforehand, the city revealed itself as vibrant, welcoming and full of character – from café-lined streets reminiscent of Barcelona to lively public squares where families, music and laughter brought Soviet-era architecture to life. Over several days of wandering, chance encounters with friendly locals, underground bars, powerful museums and relaxed everyday moments transformed expectations completely, proving Yerevan to be a cosmopolitan, creative and deeply engaging city where the real pleasure lies simply in being there and letting the city unfold.
