Charities We support

Oasis Overland is committed to working with local operators and service providers and supporting communities with our trade. However, we recognise that we have gained so much from the countries we operate in over the years that we also want to give something back to those who are unlikely to benefit much from tourism.

we support the following projects worldwide

Hupenyu Hutsva Children's Home in Harare, Zimbabwe

Hupenyu Hutsva Children's Home in Harare, Zimbabwe

Oasis have made donations of food, clothing, computers & sports equipment to this home and are involved in ongoing projects. In 2008 we funded the installation of a bore hole to enable the Home to be far more self-sufficient in food production and enabling the children to practise essential horticultural skills. We also paid for gardening tools & seeds. Since 2008 we have been running an event, fondly known by our crew as 'Kids Week'. Essentially, once every year, we use our trucks and crew to take all the children out on a day trip and end up with a big party back at the Home. Many of the children rarely leave the compound where they live and the trips have enabled them to see some of the sights their country has to offer.
The Sudanese Community Development Program (SCDP), Cairo, Egypt

The Sudanese Community Development Program (SCDP), Cairo, Egypt

A school for about 300 Sudanese refugee children, that also has a paediatric health clinic on-site. These children would otherwise have no access to formal education. The school is entirely funded by charitable donations having no access to any state funding. We have held fundraising events for the school in the UK, delivered much needed educational supplies and have recently helped the school to set up a Sponsor-A-Child scheme and sponsor a child ourselves. In previous years we have paid for air conditioning to be installed in the computer room which was unusable, due to the heat, in the summer months. We have also developed a link between the school and a school local to our office promoting opportunities for inter-cultural understanding. The children have written to one another telling each other a bit about their daily lives. When the school in the UK upgraded their computer studies room they donated all their second hand computers to SCDP and we organised getting them to Egypt. The UK school also held a fundraising event for SCDP. Our UK office staff  have organized fundraising charity events in the UK to help pay the teacher's wages and the school's rent. We are currently working with responsibletravel.com to organize some day trips out for the children.

If your trip starts or ends in Cairo, our hotel there accepts donations of clothing, educational materials for the school.

Meserani Snake Park Clinic

Meserani Snake Park Clinic

Nearly all our Africa trips that pass through Tanzania stay at the Meserani Snake Park, just outside Arusha. This popular stop-over run by 'Ma' plays a big part in the lives of the local community, providing employment opportunities and a health care clinic and school. We support the clinic with financial donations and donations of medical supplies. Oasis travellers that stay at the Snake Park have the opportunity to visit the clinic and school. Many of the staff at the site are from the local Maasai community. They run a craft co-operative and cultural museum at the campsite and organize visits to their nearby village. All profits from these ventures go to the health clinic and the Maasai community.

Toilet Twinning

Toilet Twinning

Travellers on our trips will be aware that we often pass through, and camp in, remote areas where toilet facilities do not exist. Hence the truck shovel and a walk into the bush! Our travellers have an awareness therefore of what it is like to live without sanitation and the crucial importance of good hygiene. Imagine how delighted we were then to come across Toilet Twinning. Toilet Twinning raises funds to enable people living in some of the poorest communities on earth to have clean water, a decent toilet, and to learn about hygiene - a vital combination that prevents the spread of disease, reduces the number of deaths among children, and brings hope for the future.

For people in poor communities, a hole in the ground is literally a life saver-preventing women from the risk of attack as they find somewhere private to squat, and shielding children from preventable diarrhoeal diseases.

We have twinned the 'shovels' on all our Africa trucks, and our UK office loo with latrines in Africa. For a £60 donation you too can twin your home/office loo with a latrine in a developing nation. When you twin your toilet, you receive a certificate of your toilet's twin, containing a photo, the latrine's location and it's GPS coordinates. We think this is a great project and look forward to supporting Toilet Twinning further in the future!
